Prefilled Containers in Specimen Transport System
- Prefilled containers are separated into Specimen Transport System (STS) trays. STS trays have cut out sections for each container to allow for easy transportation. These trays are allowed in some operating suites. Containers are completely translucent.
- Prefilled containers are non-sterile and 2/3 filled with 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin (NBF).
- All prefilled containers are labeled with highly visible, bright yellow labels to support identification to help minimize health risks.
- The label provides a space for patient information to help ensure chain of custody.
- Each prefilled container is marked with a lot number and expiration date
